Can you help me and give me advice on planting a black cherry tree? I live in St. Peters, Missouri and i need to plant a black cherry tree for my home school assignment. Can you give me tips on how i should do it? Is it to late in the season? I want to plant it in my back yard. But if it is to late for outside then can i plant it inside in a pot? I need lots of help. Thanks! :D |
| No its not too late. Just go for it and the tree will be fine. |
When do I spray my cherry tree for black cherry aphids? My very large cherry trees last year were eaten alive with black cherry aphids...this year I want to get a head start on stopping the critters. When should I do the first spray and how often after that. |
Normally you might want to use a dormant season spray in early winter to help with prevention, but we are past that point. There is an excellent how-to on the link I have provided below. You can pretty much start as soon as you spot aphids.
When you go to the link, you will find that ants are actually responsible (in many cases) for laying down a whole bunch of aphid eggs on your cherry tree. Ants! As if they don't do enough damage elsewhere, they actually farm aphids and "milk" them for their juices. Work on getting rid of ant colonies living in and around your tree will help prevent the problem, but that's easier said than done.
Basically, spray with organic pesticide per the How-To starting right when you see the aphids. Good luck! |
How come my Black Cherry tree is bearing fruit a little earlier? Usually I pick cherries around late July/Early August, and last year the tree produced more than the usual amount.
This year, it's early June and the cherries are already kind of a bloody red so I'm thinking it'll just be another week or two before they're ready to harvest. There's also more on the tree than even last year, to the point where the bottom branches are sagging to the ground at the end. |
| I don't know where you live but in many areas last winter was uncommonly cold and that usually speeds up ripening and amount produced. |
How can you use the bark of the Black Cherry Tree? One recently fell in our yard, it's very large and old. I've heard you can use the bark for medicinal purposes, but I need to know how and what it's good for. |
They use black cherry wood for making furniture and it's valuable wood. Sell it, as it's not that often that you find this type of wood. Call a lumbar yard in your area and tell them about the black cherry tree for more information.
Here's the information you wanted on the medicinal properties of the bark of the black cherry tree listed below:

How to grow a cherry tree and black roses too? how do i grow a cherry tree?
how much water will it need?
how much sun?
and how do i grow black roses?
how much sun/water do they need? |
If you want to grow a cherry tree from a pit , just put the pit into a container with good dirt and grow, it will take several years before it will bare any fruit, therefore go to a nursery and buy a 3 year old tree ,It will still take at least another year before it gets established and bears fruit. Good luck and they are easy to grow.
water only when dry or let nature do the work depending on where you live.I don't know about the black roses and would like to know myself, I have all but black roses, never seen one, let me know please. |
